Understanding Pronouns

Imagine if you had to tell a story about your friend named Budi without using any pronouns. Your story might sound something like this:

Budi went to the store because Budi wanted to buy an apple for Budi’s mother.

It sounds very stiff and repetitive, doesn’t it? This is where the crucial role of Pronouns comes in. By using them, the sentence above can be simplified to sound much more natural:

Budi went to the store because he wanted to buy an apple for his mother.

What is a Pronoun?

A Pronoun is a word used to replace nouns in a sentence. The noun being replaced can be a person’s name, an animal, a place, an inanimate object, or even an abstract concept.

The main purpose of using pronouns is to avoid excessive repetition, making sentences more effective, flowing, and comfortable to read or hear.
